‘Staycation’ rescue surge expected

-

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) rescue figures for 2020 show that 349 lives were saved by the charity’s lifeboat crews and lifeguards throughout the year.

There were 42 lifeboat launches per day over the summer, almost double the number launched throughout the rest of the year, after coronavirus travel restrictions led to people flocking to the UK and Irish coasts. And with more ‘staycations’ planned for 2021, the RNLI is anticipating that this summer will be its busiest yet.
