Round-Britain teen’s new challenge
Timothy Long, the teenager who made history last October as the youngest skipper to have sailed solo around Britain, has his sights set on a new challenge.
Long returned to Hamble Point Marina on 1 October on his Hunter Impala 28, Alchemy, 11 weeks after setting off, having sailed 1,740 miles and raised £14,400 for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.
Gavin Howe, the owner of a J88 racing yacht Tigris, has since picked the 15-year-old Long to race his boat in this year’s UK Double Handed Offshore Series – which is attracting some big names in sailing. Long, from Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, has teamed up with racing sailor Deborah Blair for the challenge.
