4 Castle Point Caravan Park
The dramatic position of this site gives it some spectacular views across to the Lake District, the Isle of Man and, in the other direction, up the Urr estuary. It is also just 300m from the sea, with Castle Point, Rockcliffe and Glenstocken beaches just a short walk away. If this inspires you to try out your watersports skills, head to nearby Galloway Activity Centre or The Laggan Outdoor Centre. There are plenty of walking and cycle trails, too. When the tide is out, you can even walk across to Rough Island bird sanctuary (but not in May or June, when the birds are nesting).
Castle Point’s facilities include a launderette, dishwashing areas, two toilet blocks and disabled toilet and shower rooms. There will soon be hardstanding pitches, too, although most pitches are not allocated. Added extras to help facilitate your outdoor adventures are a lock-up cycle shed, a drying cabinet and free Wi-fi.
Nearby places of interest include the Mote of Mark, a dark age fort, the John Paul Jones Cottage Museum, Caerlaverock Castle, Threave Castle and Garden, Glenluce Abbey and the plentiful trails of Galloway Forest Park. Head just up the road to Kippford for food and drink options, or visit Cream O’galloway ice cream factory.
