5 Southerness Holiday Park
If you’re looking for a full-facility site with spectacular sea views, this could be it. Southerness Holiday Park has two pools – a heated, indoor pool and the rather chillier Solway Firth the site overlooks. Situated on the rugged coastline, there is a two-mile sandy beach to explore, or you could just admire the views from the comfort of your van. Staying here, you are ideally placed for exploring the beautiful Galloway coast.
Facilities include hardstanding pitches, electric hook-up, showers, toilets, laundry machines, an adventure play area, an amusement arcade, soft play area, a nature trail, and kids’ clubs. There is also evening entertainment in the Sunset Showbar, a restaurant with a terrace, takeaway, a licensed shop and free Wi-fi. In short, there is plenty here to keep the whole family happy for your entire stay.
With so much going on at the park, it is easy to forget that there’s plenty to do in the area. Within just a few miles, you have the 18-hole public pay-and-play Solway Links Golf Course, the John Paul Jones Birthplace Museum and Southerness Lighthouse, the second-oldest lighthouse in Scotland. Further afield are Caerlaverock Castle and the nearby nature reserve, Threave Castle (accessible by boat), and the historic market town of Dumfries.
