Way to go
If you’re heading north, the M1 is the most direct route, although you’re bound to find roadworks en route.
When to go
This part of Yorkshire isn’t a huge tourist trap, so whatever time of year you decide to visit, you shouldn’t come across too many crowds. We visited in late autumn and found the weather still very pleasant, although, like much of the UK, this can be rather changeable in nature!

Where we stayed
Burton Constable Holiday Park
This site benefits from a historic and pleasantly landscaped location on the Burton Constable Estate, within easy walking distance of the Hall itself.
The touring area is separate from the holiday homes, with generous grass and hardstanding pitches arranged to take in views of the lakes and the Hall.
Pitches are supplied with 10A hook-ups, and there are fresh-water points nearby. There’s one well-maintained shower block, which provides all of the essentials, as well as a thriving on-site bar that holds regular themed events.
Also on site you’ll find a small shop, which is open in the mornings, and a handy information room in the gatehouse. Keen anglers can obtain fishing permits for the lakes.
