5 Trethem Mill Touring Park, Cornwall

Practical Caravan - - Travel County Counsel -

Okay, so this site isn’t open during the festive season – but it’s still one of our favourites from the past year, and a regular finalist in our annual Top 100 Sites Guide. Since first taking over the park in the early 1990s, the current owners have transformed Trethem Mill into an 84-pitch campsite that offers real luxury, but at the same time, is dog-friendly – there is a large natural meadow for dog walking. Wildlife is encouraged – the park has been given a David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation – and you’ll spot bird boxes in the meadow and across the site. The spotless washbocks are located in the main building, at the heart of the site. Amenities include a licensed shop selling local produce, an information area and a fully equipped launderette. There is even a herb garden, which you can raid to give your caravan meals a bit of extra flavour. Children will enjoy the enclosed play park, where they can occupy themselves safely, and an adjoining field for ball games. This award-winning campsite – with five stars from Visit England and five pennants from the AA – is located on the Roseland Peninsula, one of the most picturesque and unspoilt parts of Cornwall and home to glorious beaches, pretty woodland and charming fishing villages.
