Where are we? Com­piègne, in the Oise De­part­ment of Pi­cardy, France

What’s go­ing on? Com­piègne lies around 80km north-east of Paris, and it’s in a glade in the For­est of Com­piègne that the Ar­mistice end­ing World War I was signed 100 years ago. In the back­ground here is the Im­pe­rial Palace of Com­piègne, which was once home to Louis XVI and, af­ter the Revo­lu­tion, Napoleon III
