A fine example of a 2014 Lunar Lexon

LUNAR’S LEXON RANGE, when launched in 1995, was an early 7ft 6in wide tourer that went almost unnoticed and was restricted to just a few models. Now, that width has become the norm, and the Lexon has rather lost its selling point. But slotting between the Quasar and Clubman ranges, it offered the best of both worlds, being spacious and lightweight. We found a rather fine example of a 2014 Lexon 540 on the forecourt at Yorkshire Coast Caravans. In 2014, the Lexon came with good kit, including ATC, alarm system, microwave, Cd/radio and Alde heating. It also had smart new decals and flush-fitting windows. The range became a firm favourite with dealers for specials, adding more spec. Lexon is one of Lunar’s top choices for buyers looking for an upmarket tourer at a relatively modest price. The range’s five layouts included the rear L-shaped kitchen, now used by Elddis/compass and Bailey. But five years on, is the Lexon ageing well?

Model history

The Lexon 540 incorporates a side fixed bed, full-width end washroom, side kitchen and dresser, and front lounge with central chest of drawers. There are also some thoughtful touches – for example, caravanners who prefer to cook with a microwave while on tour will find the lower position of the one fitted in the Lexon easy to access. The washroom has a large shower cubicle and a chrome radiator. In the bedroom, the fixed bed offers a good level of comfort and there is also lots of storage here, in large, deep overhead lockers. Night illumination is excellent, with LED spotlights and well placed ceiling lights. Outside, you’ll find a barbecue point and side locker, mains socket, Status TV aerial, alloys, Al-ko chassis and large front locker. Most buyers of the 540 will be couples, so wear and tear from family use should be quite unusual. This Lexon was in very good condition inside and out, with the soft furnishings looking almost unused.
