When to go

Castleton Caravan and Motorhome Club Site is open all year, although we would avoid the wettest months. The spring would be great, but of course the weather can be variable then.

Way to go

We came off the M1 for Chesterfield, and took the A61 onto the B6051, then the B6054, passing through the villages of Hathersage and Hope.

Pitches 94, all hardstanding

Charges

(Pitch+2+hook-up) £16.45-£31.30 (standard pitch) This well-maintained, neat site is surrounded by pleasant woodland and very convenient for exploring Castleton. The washblock and information room lie at the heart of the site, and pitches are arranged around the sinuous access

road, which is one-way.

Facilities include a late-night arrivals area

and a games room, and the wardens are very helpful. There’s great community spirit here,

too. I chose pitch 6 for easy manoeuvrability, but in fact, it was a bit noisy, because of

the proximity of the road into Castleton. The rest of the site, though, was quiet. n Laneside Caravan Park
