WHEN TO GO

We chose to travel in the last two weeks of June, avoiding the European school holidays, while enjoying some hot sunshine (along with the occasional thunderstorm!).

WAY TO GO

We travelled Dover to Calais on

P&O Ferries (www.poferries.com), booked through the Caravan and Motorhome Club (www.caravanclub. co.uk), at a return cost of £200, and had planned for two stopovers on our return journey.

We visited Italy on our way back from the island of Cres, in Croatia – a journey of 300 miles to Camping Fornella on Lake Garda.

We used major routes throughout Italy, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and France.

We found even the minor roads in Luxembourg perfectly acceptable for towing, and this made a nice change from the motorways, with some really beautiful scenery.
