WELCOME TO OUR 2019 Owner Satisfaction Awards. We’re about to reveal which caravans are the most rewarding to own, and which dealers are the best to buy from. One person’s opinion might not count for much, but our awards are based on the experiences of almost 2500 caravan owners, drawn from readers of Practical Caravan and members of The Camping and Caravanning Club. Our survey questions delve deep to establish a complete picture of respondents’ ownership experience. There are several awards to be won. The first is for new caravans. As well as naming the best individual manufacturer, there are Gold and Silver Awards for high achievers. This year the Gold standard is achieved by any brand with a rating of 80% or better. Silver Awards are for those who achieve a 70-79.9% satisfaction score. The same scoring applies to other categories, including pre-owned vans. Great caravans deserve to be backed by great service, which is why the dealers are so important. The best dealerships aren’t just there for you when you have money in your pocket; they’re also quick to help when your van has problems. Dealership awards are also divided between ‘New’ and ‘Pre-owned’. There are a few changes for 2019, including a new award for Best Caravan Manufacturer, combining the results of new and pre-owned surveys to reveal the most satisfying brand of all. Another key change is that the minimum sample size has increased, making the results even more robust. But we don’t want smaller brands and dealers to miss out, so caravan makers and dealerships with strong enough scores for a Gold or Silver Award but an insufficient sample size are ‘mentioned in dispatches’. We’ve also combined the results of different brands from the same manufacturer, so Swift and Sprite have the same score this year, for example, as do all Erwin Hymer Group UK brands.
