I have an issue with vans with fixed beds. These double beds are sometimes as small as 4ft 3in wide. I think that the people using them must be really tiny. Our bed at home is a king size (about
5ft wide) – why would I want a smaller bed in a caravan?
There is no excuse for this. I’ve even seen washrooms the same size as the bed.
We are all different and want different things from a caravan, but manufacturers assume we are all the same.
So, manufacturers, please listen to your customers – if your caravan is going to have a fixed bed, make it so two people can sleep comfortably.
Even better, try the bed yourselves! And while you’re at it, please make the front seating longer. Of course, with these requirements, something else has to give.
From memory, there was one UK manufacturer that provided a 5ft-wide bed in its top-of-the-range model. Why are some of these old layouts not brought back? David Hedison
