Outdoor festivals stand a decent chance of going ahead this year, and there’s none more outdoorsy than the surfing festival at Fistral Beach, near Newquay in Cornwall.

A spectacula­r classical concert will take place in the gardens of Castle Howard, near York, with tenor Wynne Evans joining soprano Victoria Joyce for this prestigiou­s Proms event. Hertford Castle is offering a great day of Open Air Cinema for all the family, with three films showing: Moana at 10am (tickets £3), The Lion King at 2pm (tickets £3) and Moulin Rouge at 7pm (tickets £7).

You’ll be delighted to see the return of the wonderfull­y retro-themed Happy Days Festival. It’s being held at Imber Court in Esher, Surrey, and this is the 10th anniversar­y of this popular music event. Among the musical icons performing are the Jacksons, Soul II Soul, and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. Tickets start at £56 and are available to book at www.hdfestival.co.uk.

It’s the same dates for Portsmouth’s brilliant family event, the Victorious Festival

(A), which includes a Kids Arena with its very own stage and entertainm­ent, such as circus skills, arts and crafts and face painting.

There’s plenty of choice for the grown-ups, too, with

› 3-5 September

Let’s go fly a kite... you’ll be able to do just that during the St Annes Kite Festival, at Lytham St Annes in Lancashire, where teams from across the UK will fill the skies above the seafront with colour in fabulous displays of aerial agility. › 5-12 September

Kitted out in Lycra? Tyres pumped? If that’s you, it sounds as though you’re ready for the Tour of Britain, the UK’S most prestigiou­s and longest-running internatio­nal cycle race.

This year’s challengin­g route will take participan­ts all the way from Penzance, Cornwall, to Aberdeen on Scotland’s north-eastern coast.
