We went to and from the Outer Hebrides with Calmac Ferries:

• Ardrossan to Brodick, Arran (prebooked 55-minute ferry trip) • Lochranza to Claonaig (30 minutes, pay on arrival at the port terminal)

• Oban to Castlebay,

Barra (prebooked 4.75-hour crossing) • Ardmhor, Barra, to Eriskay (prebooked 30-minute journey)

• Drive over causeway to Uist, Lochboisda­le • South Uist to Mallaig (prebooked 3.5-hour ferry journey)

• Pets are welcome on the ferries
