Joining one of the dedicated clubs – the largest being The Camping & Caravanning Club and the Caravan and Motorhome Club – gives you access to a huge network of sites across the country.

You can search for your requirements and dates through their websites, book and pay online, and be sure of what to expect from your chosen site. Locations range from town to country, beach to city and the websites have all of the information you need on the facilities available before you book.

Both clubs also offer technical advice and training courses, for example on reversing or positioning your caravan on a pitch.

They also hold rallies and get-togethers for likeminded members to meet each other, swap stories and make friends.

It is possible to stay at some of the Club sites without being members, although you will probably pay a bit more for your pitch – check websites for more information.

Delamont Country Park is a Camping & Caravanning Club site in Downpatrick, County Down, which is sure to appeal to all generations of campers. In common with most Club campsites, it provides a modern shower block and a good choice of serviced pitches, and is within easy reach of a range of activities and attractions.

If you prefer the beach, try a site such as Normans Bay Camping & Caravanning Club Site, almost on the sand at the East Sussex coast. As well as the usual high standard of facilities, this site also has a well-stocked shop for all those essentials and a children’s play area to keep little ones entertained while mum and dad relax.
