Focus on... a shore thing
THERE’S A BEACH to suit all interests in Scotland! Here are five of the very best:
1 FAMILY FRIENDLY Nairn Beach, Highlands
This superb sandy beach in the heart of Nairn is popular with families, particularly in the summer. Be sure to keep an eye on the horizon – this coast is home to a school of dolphins. There is also a great range of walks in either direction, with a stunning nature reserve at Culbin Sands in the east and a fine viewpoint to the west.

2 URBAN LEGEND Portobello Beach, Edinburgh
Edinburgh is often celebrated for its historic castle, summer festivals and Military Tattoo, but it is also a prime location for wild swimming.
The slightly chilly waters of Portobello Beach are a firm favourite, and with an excellent choice of cafés and restaurants to warm up in along the prom post-dip, this beautiful stretch of sandy beach also provides the perfect run-around for your four-legged friends.

3 CITY OF DESIGN Waterfront Place, Dundee
Named the UK’S first UNESCO City of Design in 2014, Dundee is now celebrating its status as the undisputed home of comics at the Summer (Bash) Streets Festival, on 14-24 July. As part of Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022, Dundee will become ‘Beanotown’, as the much-loved comic characters take over the 3 streets for an extravaganza of workshops, events and stories.
Reflecting coastal geography with dune-like landscaping leading to an urban beach, Waterfront Place is situated adjacent to the V& A, Scotland’s first museum of design.
