Your trip planner Northumberland
When to go
Northumberland is always a welcoming destination, and whatever time of year you visit, you’ll have vast swathes of spotless beach to yourself. Wrap up warm and head there in winter for wild and windy walks, or chill out in summer on the soft dune sand.
Meanwhile, spring and autumn are great seasons to enjoy the splendidly verdant countryside and explore Northumberland National Park.
Way to go
The A1 Great North Road heading to Scotland from Newcastle-upon-tyne traverses the entire length of Northumberland.
A few miles to the east is the stunning North Sea coastline, while to the west are the National Park, the Cheviot Hills and Kielder Water & Forest Park.
At the south end of the region is Hadrian’s Wall, while the pretty town of Berwick-upon-tweed is located in the north.
The lively market town of Alnwick sits centrally.
Where we stay
We generally select a Caravan and Motorhome Club site for our visits to Northumberland.
Our favourite is River Breamish Club Campsite (( picturedpictured below),below), sittingsitting on a flat plain amid rolling hills, offering great views, flat pitches, nearby dog walks through the woods, a weekly fish & chip van and Calor gas sales.
Birdwatchers will also love the hide overlooking the adjacent lake.
If you prefer to stay at smaller campsites, take a look at Brock Mill Farm CL, Beal TD15 2PB.
