When to go
Barnard Castle is a popular destination, but a low-season visit will be much quieter.
Way to go
From the A66, take the HGV route towards Barnard Castle (signposted as such) – Abbey Road. In 1.2 miles, turn right over Abbey Bridge (at the traffic lights). In 0.5 miles, turn left at the T-junction onto Westwick Road, then Newgate Road (signposted Barnard Castle). At the roundabout (Buttermarket) turn right onto the A67 (Galgate Road). In 0.9 miles, turn left onto the B6278 (signposted Middleton-inTeesdale and High Force). In 1.5 miles, turn right onto Kinninvie Road. The CL is 100m ahead, on the left. | JANUARY 2023

Where we stayed
Viewforth Meadow CL Viewforth Meadow is an adults-only CL available to members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club, with a maximum of five units.
Newly opened in May 2022, the campsite provides slightly sloping, south-facing grass pitches, individually separated by shrubbery, and each having hook-up.
The site’s fresh-water tap, grey-water disposal and chemical emptying point are well-lit after dark and all kept spotlessly clean.
A selection of pleasant short walks have been established around the site, adorned with newly planted trees and shrubs, and some welcome seating areas.
