Fitting a motor mover
We visited the brilliant team at Downtide Caravans & Leisure, in Norfolk, to see a Powrtouch Evolution Auto twin-axle motor mover being fitted. This top-spec system has electronic actuation and four motors, one for each wheel. It takes about half a day to install.
The master power switch is fitted next to the battery locker and carefully sealed
This is done with the van on the floor, to ensure correct wheel camber and height
The motor mover is pulled forward until it nips the block between roller and tyre
From the battery, it goes to the master switch and two fuses are positioned
Where cables go through the chassis, they are protected with plastic trunking
Once the work has been completed, it’s clear to see the very professional finish!
Each unit is placed by the wheel it will turn. That step will have to come off first
Initially, the motor movers are bolted to the chassis, but not tightened up
As the other units are attached, another technician starts work on the electrics
Next, the mover control unit is made ready for the cabling to be attached
A small hole is drilled in the floor below the control, for cables to pass through
Cables come through the floor next to the control unit, and are attached to it
Movers are positioned and crossbeam located across the underside of the van
Both movers are roughly in position and waiting to be aligned with each wheel
The main motor mover power lead is fed through into the battery box
Mover cables need to be tidied, but the lengths have to be kept the same
Cables are carefully attached underneath the caravan, avoiding any tight coiling
Finally, the motor mover system is ready for testing and showing to the customer
