We’ve been to the Silverstone Classic and the Laon Historic.

-

As the UK’S biggest classic car jamboree – and the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival – you’d expect the Silverstone Classic to be special, but unless you’ve already been you won’t realise just what an incredible spectacle it is. The event lasts for three days but that’s never enough to get round everything because there’s just so much happening both on the track and off it.

Every year we go and each year we come away knowing that we’ve missed a load of mouthwatering grids on the track, bits of the trader village and some of the club stands too; you need military levels of preparation to avoid this. The grids racing over the weekend encompass the most diverse array of cars imaginable; from Historic Formula Junior to Group C with Touring Cars from all ages along the way, plus Historic Formula One, GT cars and sports racers from all eras.

It’s claimed that around 10,000 cars take part in the club displays and every year a number of anniversaries are celebrated. This year it’s the turn of the Fiat 500 and Lotus Seven (60 years), Jaguar XJ220 (25 years) and Formula Ford (50 years) while the Ferrari Owners’ Club will be there in force as it’s celebrating its 50th birthday.

In case all this isn’t enough you can also look forward to air displays, live music on the Friday and Saturday evenings and a sale courtesy of Silverstone Auctions – to see what’s on offer as the date draws near, log on to silverstoneauctions.com.

Day tickets start at £43 and a weekend pass is £118. silverstoneclassic.com
