1966 E-type Kirk Rylands 1968 MGC Clive Kennedy 1960 Healey Ian Clayton

Three owners who have had their cars for over 120 years in total… Kirk, Clive and Ian are long term custodians. Ian got his first Healey, a 100/4, when I was 19, followed by a 100M, and then the 3000 you see here that he bought, nearly new, as his everyday car in 1969 paying ‘top-book’ price, which was £325. He has now covered over 100,000 miles in it. ‘I bought it with 48,000 miles on the clock. It’s now done 162,000 miles and has had a complete chassis-up restoration during my ownership.’ Kirk Rylands has owned his E-type for 41 years and it was on the cover of Classic Car Weekly in August 1994. He owned and raced HWM rac ing ‘HWM 1’ for 34 years and also a single seater HWM for 15 years. Both cars are now sold but he

still has a 1989 911 3.2 Carrera, an XK140 roadster and a 1923 Bentley 3/4.5 as well as this E-type. ‘My wife still has her first car from 50 years ago – a 1951 MG TD. They are all used and none of them are anything like concours!’

Clive is another long-term owner, over 37 years in the saddle of his MGC. It is a well-used but brilliantly maintained car that has competed in classic rallies. ‘It was rotten when I got it but I had to wait a few years before a rebuild.’ The engine has been lightened and balanced, the head flowed, with a sports exhaust. It now has 153bhp and with better damping and a better antiroll bar set up it goes like it should have done at launch. ‘I’ve done 80,000 miles in it. And it has been superb.’ Clive is a happy man.
