Rust in Peace
Your discoveries in yards, barns, fields and bushes
Rusting relics out standing in their field, plus a star find in Dallas.
MG Magnette ZA
The remains of an MG Magnette ZA (with more classic tin behind) confirm this garage owner’s fascination with anything British. Roger wasn’t able to find out what’s planned for it all.
Vanden Plas 3-Litre
Here’s a Vanden Plas 3-Litre (the luxury version of the Austin Westminster) and behind it what looks like an Austin A135 Princess. A number of Jaguar E-types and XJS coupés in various states of disrepair are in the open, too.
Ford Zephyr Zodiac
This duo-tone Ford Zephyr Zodiac (both badges still showing on the fairly soundlooking bootlid) appears to have been driven in on the back of an old truck. Both of them look long forgotten, but the Ford deserves to be saved, surely.
Husky, TR7, Alpine
Roger Neate was on a rip to Dallas when he stumbled into a yard full of rusting tin, mainly of Sixties British variety, and earning him this month’s prized Rust in Peace gong. From left to right, we have a Hillman Husky, Triumph TR7 and Sunbeam Alpine. Lurking behind a white Triumph GT6 is a Wolseley 1500 and a Rover P6.
Matt says
‘What a find! Blink and you cold almost be on a UK garage site, rather than a Texan classic car lot. This needs more research…’
Jaguar S-type
Barry Babister unearthed these three cars in a garden during a clearance job. Best of the bunch is a Jaguar S-type, but alas there’s no info on ‘CLK 5B’ on the DLVA vehicle database.
Spridget
The Spridget is worst of the three. Our rustfinder says he can pass on messages from interested parties.
Austin A40
The land owner needs to clear the entire site as soon as possible. This very overgrown Austin A40 and two other classics may still yield some useful parts to help other cars live on.
Saab 96
A lightly bashed Swede… this one a 96 two-door saloon showing impressive patina.
Red MGB roadster and LWB Land Rover
Robert Hitt from Maine, New England is our RIP contributor here. He shot this MGB and Land Rover Series IIA Station Wagon locally. There are plenty more Landies dotted around in the collection.
Saab 95
All of Robert’s subjects are rusting away peacefully on wooded farmland, awaiting divine intervention. The Saab 95 estate pictured below is showing every sign of having had quite enough, thanks very much.
Reliant Scimitar SS1
‘Wingnut’ (email) spotted this Scimitar SS1 (1984-90) near Gravelly Hill, Birmingham. It’s not been touched for well over a decade and typically with these glassfibre-bodied cars, it has a thick covering of nature’s growth. n
