TRS STARAT THE BRITISH GP

TR Register creates the classic ‘coup’ of the year at Silverstone

-

Aspectacular win for all classics was created at the British Grand Prix in July. The pre-race drivers’ parade featured Triumph TRS provided by the TR Register, putting classics in front of hundreds of thousands of fans. The parade was led by TS2 and MVC 575 the TR2 that broke the land speed record at Jabbeke in 1953. To the rear was a works rally TR7 V8 and a 1959 Le Mans TR3S race car.

As the race approached the TRS were arranged behind TS2 in grid positions to match the qualifying results from the previous afternoon before they were driven out and parked up ‘Le Mans style’ along the national pitlane to await the drivers. When the course car appeared the TRS were lined up on the main pit straight.

With a F1 driver on board each TR, the convoy set off for the lap of the track, the crowd cheering as their favourite driver came into view. Many of the drivers remarked on how much they enjoyed the parade; ‘The cars are really cool, my father used to own a TR7,’ remarked Sebastian Vettel. ‘I wanted the white TR4, it’s awesome,’ enthused Max Verstappen.’

For the Register it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to show off the Triumph TR range in front of motorsport fans and to fly the flag for the classic scene in front of a global audience. To finish off the race with a Lewis Hamilton victory was the icing on the cake.

The opportunity for TRS to open the 2017 British Grand Prix came about thanks to the initiative of club member Ian Smith, a TR2 owner from the Chiltern area group.
