Beatles among Beetles

Quarrymen to perform at NEC Classic Show

-

The band that started the ball rolling on The Beatles will be performing at the NEC Classic Motor Show in November, to mark 60 years since John Lennon first met Paul Mccartney. Surviving members of John’s original Quarrymen have been invited by the Federation of British Historic Vehicles to play on Saturday November 11.

There will be two 30-minute sets and to capture the spirit of the band’s July 1957 appearance at the St Peter’s Church fete in Liverpool (where John and Paul first got together), they will be on the back of a truck, a 1937 AEC Matador courtesy of the Commercial Vehicle Society. John and Paul went on to possess a varied collection of cars. Mccartney was often seen driving a 1965 Radford Mini Cooper S, Aston Martin DB6, Lamborghini 400GT and an Austin Healey 3000. Lennon owned a Ferrari 330 GT, Rollsroyce Phantoms, a 1956 Princess and a Mini (famously swapping it for amaxi, which he crashed in Scotland). The last car he owned was a 1979 Mercedes 300TD in New York City.

The Lancaster Insurancesponsored show will take place between November 10-12 and this year’s theme is family ties.
