CHARLES’S TAKE ON…
The ones that got away
After I’d retired, I found a lot of sketches and put an exhibition on called ‘Saved from the Bin’.
American influence
The US realised what often looked good on a huge Cadillac didn’t work so well on smaller cars.
No cabrio Corsair
Unitary construction didn’t lend itself to cabrios back then, so they had to be handed out to other firms.
Colour trialling
Panels were sent to sunny Florida with different paint shades on them. They had to last for a year without fade.
The MKIV Zephyr/ Zodiac
I can’t say I was too proud of that. We didn’t like the overhang at the front or back.
