IN PRAISE OF THE MULTIPLA

- David Murray, Herts

I was glad to see the Multipla in your Practically Classic section

(PC July 2017). I bought mine new in 2001 and it did sterling family service until a couple years ago. My wife and I still love it and hope to get it back on the road when we retire.

Brilliantly designed, for passengers rather than looks (although we think it looks fine, albeit unusual, not so the facelift)! Kids love it – the windows are very low so they can see out. We’ve never had any getting car sick.

You’re high up for a good view, it’s smaller than you think, with a wheel at each corner stance and a typically Italian engine willing you on. The gearknob looks odd on the dash but it’s in a perfect position. In all, it’s like a big Mini. A great car spoiled by poor advertising and because Brits are afraid of anything unusual.
