Citroën HY from the USA

- J.H. Bartlett, New Hampshire, USA

During the annual Steamboat Meet in New England, there are often some unusual sights. The folks who are active in the steamboat hobby are known for their skills and knowledge of technologies from 100 years or more ago. The boats often come from many miles away; sometimes from as far as the United Kingdom.

This year a tow vehicle caught the eye. Joe Petry from Philadelphia hauls his steam launch ‘Reciproca’ with a 1970 Citroën HY.

This truck first saw duty as apparatus in the French Fire Services. Joe bought the Citroën while on a car buying trip in Normandy with a friend who makes a business of buying classics and shipping them to the US for resale. They had less than 14 hours to make the unplanned purchase and arrange for shipment to Baltimore!

There are only seven or eight or Citroën H Vans registered in all of North America. The truck receives regular maintenance from Joe himself, but when it needs more than he wants to tackle, he has a Citroën specialist in Maryland do the job. Thanks from a longsubscriber. time Please keep up the good work.
