WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE

Capable and comfortable are the watch-words of this range-topping Granada. Slide behind the wheel and the well-padded driver’s seat gives you a big bear hug, while there are plenty of buttons and switches to play with on the wood-effect dashboard. The Cologne V6 quietly idles away somewhere beneath the huge bonnet; select ‘drive’ and you’re away without a fuss. As the automatic transmission unobtrusively changes ratios, it all seems remarkably civilised. Plant your right foot into the carpet, though, and the Granada’s true character is revealed. The gearbox kicks down, the V6 roars and this big car leaps forwards. Other road users best get out of the way, this is a classic Ford that’s in a hurry.
