Nine-year voyage of Discovery 1

1989

The Discovery debuts in threedoor form, with 3.5 petrol V8 or 2495cc 200 TDI. Air-con and a third row of seats are optional.

1990

September, V8 gets fuel injection – 164bhp, or 153bhp if catalytic converter is fitted. Five-door, sevenseater arrives November.

1992

From October a catalytic converter is standard (previously an option)and an automatic gearbox joins the V8 options list.

1993

June, 2.0-litre 4-cyl petrol offered. In September the V8 is enlarged to 3947cc, 180bhp. A four-speed auto is optional on the

1994

Facelift: new grille, larger headlamps, redesigned dash, optional twin airbags. 300 TDI unit launched. 1998: Discovery 2 replaces Discovery 1.
