SQUEALING LIKE A PUG

-

QThe front brakes of my Peugeot 309 are making a horrible squealing noise. I expected to find the pads worn to the metal, but they’re almost new. What’s the matter? Max Goldberg, Perth

AThe pads are ‘shimmying’ slightly as you brake. This causes them to move against the brake piston and caliper, which is what generates the squealing sound. Remove the pads and apply a light smear of copper grease, silicone grease or permanent brake grease to the reverse side. If they’re going to move around, they’ll now do so silently.

?? ?? Grease the backs of pads to prevent brake squealing.
