BASIC SERVICING AND ADJUSTMENT

1 Check float level

Remove the top section. You may have to disconnect the choke linkage. Make sure the float height is set as per your manual. It should be within 0.5mm either way and not cockeyed on its axle.

2 Clear out jets

Blow out all jets and orifices that you can see. There’s no need to remove them. Use a compressor or a tyre pump with an airbed adaptor. Carb cleaner is useful. Clean sediment from the float chamber.

3 Check and clean

Renew suspect gaskets and replace any threadbare fabric-rubber diaphragms (accelerato­r pump, enrichment valve, etc). Remove the idle mixture screw, clean its orifice and blow out with air.
