ENGINE FALTERS WHEN PULLING AWAY

-

1 Transition holes

Check the float level first. Transition holes just above the butterfly in the carb’s throat supply fuel to bridge the gap between idling and driving. They’re usually fed fuel by the idling system. Clear the transition holes with brush bristle. If the fault remains and you’re sure the idling system is OK, look for air leaks (servo hose, vaccum advance hose, throttle spindles, carb-to-manifold joint).

2 Accelerator pump

Open the throttle slightly and slowly by hand. You should see a steady stream of fuel issue from the pump’s nozzle. If it’s a dribble or it needs a sharp movement to work, check the pump (see last page).
