Wheels and wings and other things
Sywell Classic: Pistons & Props, Sept 22-23
The best events are those that don’t focus exclusively on cars – some other vintage machinery is always a good thing. The Sywell Classic mixes vintage aircraft with classic cars and motorbikes to great effect. It’s not a static event either – some of the aircraft are flying and a drag strip is in action throughout the weekend, where you can see around 75 hot rods and dragsters doing their thing.
The jet-powered VW Type 2 Oklahoma Willy will also be doing demo runs on the drag strip, while the Two Brothers stunt team will be performing motorbike drifting displays.
Chuck in live music from the the Jitterbug Jets, the Houndogs, plus Lola and her Blue Light Boys and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a great weekend.
As if all this wasn’t enough, there’s also a host of owners’ groups displaying their wares,
including the Saab Enthusiasts’ Club, Fiat 500 Club, TVR Car Club and multi-marque classic car clubs from all over the Midlands.
The show organisers are keen to get as many visitors in period attire as possible, so if you’ve got something suitable in the wardrobe be sure to wear it. Catch the judge’s eye and you could win yourself a bottle of wine.
Tickets are available on the day, but if you book ahead and you’re in a pre-1986 car you’ll be able to grab a slot in the Pole Position parking lot so you’re a part of the show. Log on to sywellclassic. co.uk for more.
