‘My J2 was found in a gun pit on Salisbury Plain'
1932 MG J2 & 1968 MGB Liz and Rob Paisley, Kirkby Stephen
I bought the J2 from the MOD in December 2017. It's my dream long-term project and now lives in my garage next to my MGB. It was found in a gun pit near Larkhill military camp on Salisbury Plain. I have dismantled the front axle and had it straightened and I'm hoping to bring the car back to life in no more than 12 years. I then plan to enter it in the VSCC Honister Slate Mine Trial, as I live in Cumbria.
Recently the former squaddie who crashed it into the pit in the first place got in touch. Back then the soldiers used it as a toy! One day they rolled it up to the top of a hill and rolled it down, which is how it crashed.
I bought my MGB in 2010 and did a number of events in it, hoping to complete the Solway Rally in it this year. It’s a Texas car that came over in the Nineties and was restored in 1998.
The J2 as found – it should be ready by 2030.
The J2 now lives next to Rob and Liz's MGB.
