1986 Peugeot 505 V6 Robert Elliott*, Glasgow
Celebrating the classics that really make you tick.
I did the pre-delivery inspection on this car, so you could say it has been a great part of my life! It came up for sale in 2016. A friend tipped me off and when I walked up the drive – there it was!
This is the only right-hand drive manual V6 left. It hadn’t been on the road for 16 years so I gave it a full overhaul and it needed a fair bit of welding. It has taken me 18 months but it’s finished now! The V6 is special with unique suspension that runs a lot of negative camber. It was expensive – in 1986, £7800 would have bought a new 205 GTI but this 505 V6 was £17,500!
I have been a Peugeot club member, a 406 BTCC team member and a Scottish master technician. I’ve modified and repaired countless Peugeots but I’m especially proud of the 505. Given my history, it feels like I’ve come full circle. *A few months after this interview, Robert sadly died. We send our deepest condolences to partner Zoe, his family and his many friends.
