Far too cheap to ensure

Practical Classics (UK) - - YOUR SHOUT - Andrew Vart, Caerphilly

My son passed his test and loves driving the family VW Polo. So, we took a deep breath and prepared to go through the usual rigmarole, but, no-one would touch him as a named driver. If we transferred the car to him and coughed up two grand for a black box, it would be possible to give him his own policy, said one broker. Then one specialist said: ‘Yes, we do named drivers under age 25.’ But there was a problem, ‘Your car isn’t worth enough for us to insure’. No, really, he meant it! Now my son can’t drive the car he loves… it’s too cheap. Madness.
