‘They don’t look like anything else!’

Practical Classics (UK) - - YOUR CARS - 1977 Triumph TR7 Matt Weckert, Sheffield

I own a 1972 Rover 2000 TC, a 1976 Maxi and a 1979 Allegro 1100 and although I enjoy them all, I wanted something sportier. I’ve always liked British Leyland vehicles and having sat in a TR7 at the Classic Motor Show last year, and I decided I wanted one. I have mates into classic cars, like the Bond Bug behind me which one of my best mates owns, so there’s a useful pool of knowledge that’s really handy when seeking out classics or trying to fix them.

The TR7 fits the bill for me – it’s a great car which handles like a dream. The dodgy BL reputation is unfair. They didn’t comply with the usual TR image and Seventies wedges aren’t like anything else. People stare but I’m not sure if it’s me or the car.
