‘The Rancho was way ahead of its time’
1983 Talbot Matra Rancho Clive Nelson, Southampton
The reaction is always the same – a mixture of surprise and thumbs up. In the family for 30 years, my car has required occasional work. I sort the corrosion as and when because rust gets hidden underneath all that GRP bodywork. I bought my first Rancho new as it made such a good utility vehicle. It could carry my tools as well as a growing family. The Rancho was way ahead of its time but it was expensive, too. I could have bought a Volvo estate but I’m glad I didn’t.
