Great shows that serve up a classic blow-out

-

Plan your Christmas and New Year’s days out with PC’S festive guide.

If all of the drinking and eating gets a bit much over Christmas and the New Year, salvation is at hand thanks to a raft of classic car meets taking place over the festive period.

The biggest is at Brooklands, Surrey (brooklandsmuseum.com). The historic venue’s Paul Stewart comments: ‘In previous years more than 1500 classics have gathered from all over, with unparalleled variety. There will be a winter BBQ and all the exhibitions will be open including the aircraft factory and flight shed.’

To accommodate the huge numbers of motorcycles, trucks, hot rods and classics expected, vehicles will spread to the aircraft park where the museum’s collection of Vickers-built aircraft will be open for visitors. The gates open at 9am and visitors have the chance to experience three simulator rides in the state-of-the-art 4D theatre. For children, the Discovery Centre and soft play area inside the Sunbeam Café will be open.

On Boxing Day Steve Biddlecombe will be running his usual meet in Romsey (Hants) town centre for pre-1976 classics (pre-1986 for US cars). Says Steve: ‘The event has run since 2002 and although it’s free to enter, it’s a charity fund raiser with tens of thousands raised so far.

‘Sadly, this could be the last event as we might not be able to use the largest part of the site next year, so I’d like to go out on a high, in case it is the last.’

See romseyclassic carandbikemeet.co.uk for updates. Check the diary section, too, for a complete list of festive classic car meets.

As we went to press, however, we were still awaiting for confirmation of whether the Lakeland and Bournemouth meets would take place. So please keep an eye on their respective websites for updates nearer the time.
