My partner and I are travelling around Australia in our 1994 L300. It was converted to a camper in 1997 and has a pop-top, internal fit-out and a heavy-duty stainless steel bumper which carries the spare and an extra 74-litre reserve fuel tank. The camper has a 2.4-litre petrol engine and a five-speed ’box with both high and low ratios, and the front hubs are auto locking. It has covered 331,000km (engine rebuilt at 300k). The L300 van is common in Australia, but the 4WD version is rare. Almost every other day we have people stop to talk to us about the van.
