H&H wins hearts and minds at war museum
With the added attractions of classic aircraft and a good café, H&H’S Duxford sales make a grand day out. It all seems to put buyers in a good mood, too. Almost 60 per cent of the vehicles – about average – sold at the firm’s October 17 event. But a higher than usual number were above estimate.
However, one of the biggest surprises came from a car with no reserve – a dusty MG Metro Turbo project that’s been in storage for 16 years. Sagged rear suspension put no-one off this 49,000miler and it made £6469. That was the price for the best ones not so long ago.
Another riser is the VW Corrado VR6,
which has so far barely progressed from cult-following status. H&H offered a superb 63,500-mile ’95 Storm version (one of 500) that also boasted a glass-out, bare-metal repaint. It made a suitably top-quality £10,688.
Much older, and far less serious in outlook, was a 1962 ripplebonnet 2CV Michelin van. Used as such when new, it has now been through a body-off resto and retains such wonderful details as the roof-mounted illuminating Bibendum figure and rack of tyres in the back. Even at £16,313 this looked well bought.
