‘I GOT THE CALL I’D HOPED FOR’

Tom Morris buys dad’s Minor

-

The car that inspired my love of Minors was bought by my dad in 2005. A totally original 1957 four-door with less than 18,000 miles, it had been in collections across Anglesey all its life. I had always dreamed of owning it one day. I even bought my own Minor and became heavily involved in the MMOC.

I told dad that if he ever wanted to sell it to give me first refusal. Recently I got that call.

The day I collected it was the first time the car had left Wales since 1957. I plan to detail this family heirloom, now with 23,000 miles, for next year’s show season. I’ve had the wheels sandblasted and repainted and fitted a set of period-correct tyres. I’ll take the engine and ‘box out and detail the engine bay.
