Large panel replacement made easy
1 Lift off
There’s little point in piecemeal repairs if there’s a large area of corrosion. Cut smaller than the size of the repair section, though!
2 Cut and position
Carefully trim the car and repair section to fit together perfectly in three dimensions. Use a template if necessary, then clamp in place.
3 Little by little
Tack the repair section in place at critical intervals. Leave to cool, then tack between the tacks and repeat the process.
4 Mind the gap
Continue to fill in the gaps between tacks, allowing to cool regularly to avoid distortion, until the weld is a continuous seam.
5 Grind down
Linish back the welds with a flap disc until the repair is barely visible in preparation for lead loading.
