Wheel alignment at home
1 Laser gauge
Kit consists of a laser gauge and mirror on a metal tube with two plastic support legs. Start by using the mirror tube as a measure to position the laser gauge at the correct distance from the righthand wheel.
2 Position the mirror
Point the laser across ahead of the wheels. Set the mirror up with its legs leaning against the left wheel rim. Adjust the legs so that the mirror is level.
3 Aim the laser beam
Go back to the laser on the right and adjust the beam’s aim so it points into the mirror. Ensure mirror is pointing down so laser is reflected onto ground.
4 Zero the reflected
Tilt mirror until laser is reflected onto the gauge, showing as a red dot on the white scale. Move gauge slightly until the laser’s red dot rests on central zero line.
5 Move the mirror
Place the mirror against the right-hand wheel rim and level it using the built-in spirit level. The position of the red laser dot on the scale shows the toe-in figure.
6 Adjust toe in
If necessary, adjust the toe-in by turning the track rods in or out, remembering to tighten the lock nuts afterwards. Reset the Trackace and measure the new, adjusted toe-in. Keep repeating the process until the toein is correct.
