READER’S TIP

Regarding loss of drive in third and fourth on a Triumph Vitesse (October 2018), my experience is usually that the spline in the synchro hub has stripped, losing drive to the mainshaft. Also, the selector fork nut can loosen or the main shaft can snap – particularly on 2-Litre models with early Herald gearboxes.
