Two-stroke engine
The three-cylinder two-stroke was introduced with the 93. Its 748cc displacement was smaller than than the outgoing twin’s 764cc, but it generated more power. DKW had moved to three cylinders two years earlier, but the Saab’s porting was very different and its con-rods were piston- rather than crankguided, kept centred and vertical by caged roller small end bearings. Floating big ends made for better lubrication of their double-row roller bearings. The pressed crank assembly was supported by four main ball bearings. The block was cast nickel alloy steel and the head aluminium.
