DISMANTLE YOUR MOTOR
1 Undo screws
The motor will usually be held together by two screws. These often run all the way through, fastening into threads or nuts at the other end of the casing. Here, they secure two ‘ears’ on the side.
2 Remove circlip
Release the two screws, then remove any other retainers. This motor has a circlip on the end of its shaft, with a shim underneath it. You’d expect to find shim washers inside the motor, too.
3 Pry off casing
Mark the relative positions of the casing and the end plate, though they’ll often only go back one way round. Carefully tap or pry off the casing. Separate the casing, end plate and armature.
