That feeling of déjà vu- at 100mph

-

In the February issue, John Simister reminded me of my early driving experiences. I was 17 in November 1968 and my father suggested a drive to mid-wales a few days after my birthday to close the caravan for winter. This was a trip of about 120 miles each way. So, L-plates on and off we went in his Zephyr 6 MKIV.

The drive there was uneventful, but interesting as it was the largest car I had driven at that point. The journey back was better. Dad was dozing in the passenger seat and the

A5 became a dual carriageway, so why not I thought. Foot down, I gradually increased the speed to an indicated 100mph before slowing down before he woke. I drove the car a lot after I’d passed my test and have always had a great affection for the Zephyr, but the model is sadly very rare these days.
