Having long had a soft-spot for cars emanating from Idle, I decided some years ago to add a Jowett Jupiter as a stablemate for my Javelin De Luxe. Before Jowett produced its own Jupiter bodies styled in-house by Reg Korner, early Jupiters chassis were sent to to coachbuilders for completion.
My own early Jupiter, chassis number 30, remained in chassis form for some years until Maurice Gomm (famed for his Formula Junior Lola bodies) was commissioned to produce a one-off body. Although he obviously sourced elements from local scrap yards (re-skinned Morris
Minor doors, Sunbeam
Talbot bumpers, Austin A55 windscreen,
Jaguar XK140 seats), the outcome was a handsome coupé that handled and performed well. I wonder if 6504 MH still exists?
I still retain my first issue of Practical
Classics, but have sporadically been deflected to your competitors in the intervening decades. But, on account of their now pretentious misappropriation of the English lexicon, I have returned to a welcomed
PC subscription. I recognise that your journal uniquely caters for both these extremes of our classic pantheon; long may it prevail! A Peter Fawcett, Sheffield
