‘Probably the most driven Jensen in the world!’

1973 Jensen-healey Adam Fischer, Harrow

-

This Jensen-healey was my first car and remains my one and only vehicle – I do 16,000 miles a year in it! I grew up around Jensens. My dad had an SP and previous to that, a Jensen-healey and as I shadowed him as he worked on them, I got a sense early on as to how cars worked. It also got me interested in engineering, eventually leading me to get a job in the motorsports industry as a design engineer.

With all that in mind, Jensen-healey ownership comes fairly easy to me. I work on the car myself and, with help from my dad Richard, I’ve made a few upgrades to improve performance and economy. This means I can use it as my daily driver, commuting as I do from Harrow to Slough each day. It wasn’t always this way, however. When I first bought it, the bottom end was knackered and it burnt loads of oil. Months of tinkering later and I had it running properly and, since then, I’ve never looked back!

With an old car like mine, you get a real feel for the mechanics of it, which means it’s easier to maintain and fix. If a Jensen-healey is set up correctly, it will be perfectly reliable – just as mine is. It’s also a great car for a long road trip. One highlight was a trip to the Alps with our Dutch and Swiss friends from the Jensen Owners Club. Early one morning, having driven some truly incredible roads, my dad and I stood there beside the car, watching the sun rise across the mountains. Just magical.
